School Spirit

School Spirit Is Excitement
 That Creates Action!
It Is Pride In Your School

If School Spirit is present, School is exciting and full of action.
If School Spirit is not present, School is boring and dull.

School Spirit is like a stick of dynamite. If you light the fuse
you get an explosion of enthusiasm, and everyone is ready for action.

If you're looking for school spirit, or a way to create school spirit,
you've come to the right place.
These Ideas can act as your magic wand!

Defining School spirit is not easily!

  • It is an emotion that makes you feel proud of the school.
  • It is the feeling that makes you do those things that make a difference.
  • It gives you the feeling of pride as you step into the stadium for your school's football game, or when you step into the gym to see a basketball game, or when you enter the auditorium to listen to the School Band Play.
  • It makes you proud to wear the personalized shirt you received during your spirit week.
  • It makes you volunteer for the yearbook committee, and the student Council, or take part in a fundraiser.
  • It makes you look forward to school halfway through your summer holidays. (Well, maybe that's a little extreme... but you get the point?)
  • School spirit involves a strong emotional connection with the school. It makes you loyal to the school, believe in the school, and support the school.

School spirit is explosive!

It improves a student's commitment to education, gives them a positive direction in life, and acts as a deterrent to negative behavior.

It gives the student a determination to complete school, and makes a better life. A student with School Spirit is enthusiastic about what they are doing, and they route for the team like crazy!

School spirit creates a positive learning environment for both students and teachers that makes going to school fun and exciting.

It develops relationships among students, teachers and school administrations. It causes the people in the community to rally around the school.

School is not only about reading time, coloring sheets, and recess. It is about tests, and report cards and creating relationships that last a lifetime. “Small” School Mascots do all of that!

That is what makes going to school exciting. It is friendships, and it is a bond that develops over the years. It's having teachers that pour their hearts out into students, day after day.

It is graduating, into the "real" world knowing you will cherish your school years as long as you live.

School spirit energizes the students, and the school, and gets it involved in the community, and the community involved in school.

The school with spirit has a strong sense of togetherness flowing through the entire student body. It gets both students and teachers involved and motivated. Students are enthusiastic about school, and learning becomes exciting and fun. But, you know all of that,

But, What Do You Do To Boost School Spirit?

The best time to start is on the first day back to school. What could you do on the first day of school to make school exciting? How can you create an interest that will grow into something big?

It's the first day of school and I have an idea or two that might get you started.

What if you gave a Small School Mascot to every student that comes to school on the first day of school each year?

You know the Mascot creates school spirit! What if your free gift created an enthusiastic spirit that moved the student toward loyalty and interest in the school?

You know the students and teachers must get acquainted! What if on the first day of school you could bring the teachers and the students together around a central image that symbolizes the school and its mission?

You know the "Small School Mascot" is a collector’s item! What if the student began their own collection, and wanted to collect one every year for as long as they are in school?

You know that merchants are big advertisers! What if a merchant in town wanted to sponsor the gifts of the "Small School Mascot" by funding the purchase price?

Your school mascot, would be a different style each year, to represent what your school year means to the student?

And what if you could do all of these things, and more? And what if it was easy once you get it started?

It may sound like a big deal and it is. But it is not a big job. There is nothing that will be more rewarding than to get this School Spirit idea started in your school! It will be a positive answer to all the questions about how to explode school spirit into enthusiasm!

It will create a school spirit that will last a lifetime, and hold memories that students will remember when they are old and grey.

It is revolutionary. It is effective. It is very profitable. It builds character!

So, how do you get started? Where do you begin?

First, let's summarize the program. You want to set the school on fire with enthusiasm, loyalty and determination. You want to have a school the teachers and students love and look forward to coming to school each morning, and carry it home with them each evening.

You know, as well as I do, that teaching becomes an overwhelming job for many teachers, and a day of boredom or misbehaving for students.

Teachers find uninterested students, too few tools to use in teaching, and a challenge to keep order in the class.

Many teachers spend their own funds to try to give the students an education, and keep them interested.

Students find class a boring experience, not because the teacher would like for it to be that way, but because the feeling created by the atmosphere of the situation, makes it this way. It doesn't have to be this way, and this program will make things better.

You will organize a back to school celebration that will take place on the first day of school each year. The primary gift to the students will be a Small School Mascot, but you may also have other attractions. You want to set up a tradition for welcoming teachers, especially the new teachers, and student to the school for this year. The mascot will be the central attraction with the objective and purpose to create an emotional response that generates school spirit.

You want to create an interest that will make the teachers and parents feel proud of the school. You want to create excitement and enthusiasm. You want to make the first day of school an important day in the life of the student, one that will be remembered as fun and excitement.

You want a day that will start a series of days where the student will find it fun to learn. So who is involved in this program? Who is in charge? Who is responsible? The school Principal, the school staff, the teachers, the parents, and the "teacher parent organization" and the Booster Club. They are all involved!

It must have the support and blessing of everyone, but you are in charge. You want to create a school spirit climate and renew the feeling from time to time throughout the year.

You will begin to emphasize the school mascot and school spirit more. You will use School Spirit Merchandise throughout the year in fundraising, character building programs. This includes everything from key chains, hats, and athletic wear, to window decals, bumper stickers and a series of "Small School Mascots" to celebrate important events.

You will have School Spirit Contests throughout the Year and Acknowledge students, staff, and sport teams, that show the most spirit. You will incorporate various small school mascot themes in your curriculum. Not only will this boost school spirit, it also helps to build character among students and staff.

Whether it's the homecoming football game, or a basketball game between seniors and freshmen your school spirit activity must be able to draw and hold interest. School spirit activity is important, because it involves both students and teachers.

By promoting various forms of school spirit activity throughout the year, you are helping to create a positive learning environment that is both exciting and memorable. Plus whenever you have an abundance of school spirit activity...you will always find your school showing spirit.

Here Are The Ideas You Will Use!

They are simple and to the point, but you will make everyone of them a "big thing" when you present the gift to the students!

·                            A “Small” School Mascot to make each student proud of his or her grade.

·                            A “Small” School Mascot presented in the student's class and on his or her birthday.

·                            A “Small” School Mascot” to celebrate each and every special event in school.

·                            A “Small” School Mascot Award for various student achievements or actions.

·                            A “Small” School Mascot presented to each student upon graduation.

·                            A Most Valuable Player Award to a sports player for the week, or season.

·                            An award to the School Band for winning the Competition.

·                            A monthly Teachers’ Award for the Teacher of the Month, and you will think of others.

Choose a school spirit activity that is age appropriate. School spirit activities for kids in elementary school differ from school spirit activities in high school or college. But you know the difference!

Get feedback from students and staff, in order to create activities that everyone can enjoy.

Choose the timing of your school spirit activity. Activities done during school hours tend to get a better response, than those outside of regular school hours.

This is where school spirit awards come in. School spirit awards reward those who have consistently shown school spirit throughout the year.

Recipients of school spirit awards include (but are not limited to)... students--- staff--- school organizations/clubs--- school sports teams--- and local businesses.

Recognizing these individuals and organizations for their accomplishments creates a bond between the school and those who support the program. It gives lasting benefits! Like School Spirit

Awards Reward Positive Behavior and makes the student feel better. Whenever someone does a kind deed, or consistently shows school spirit...more than likely they are doing it from their heart. It's just something that seems natural. The last thing they usually expect is a reward for their positive behavior. This is why school spirit awards are so gratifying, yet so unpredictable

School Spirit Awards Inspire Others. It's always nice to see people who have set a standard for excellence. They are the ones who give us something to aim for. They often go the extra mile, when others have given up. While school spirit awards recognize such individuals, they also provide inspiration for the entire student body.

School Spirit Awards Boost School Spirit, Create a positive learning environment, while boosting school spirit. You might not see results right away, but as long as you remain consistent in your efforts... good things are bound to happen.

General gatherings are ideal for presenting school spirit awards. You can hold your award ceremony during half-time of a football game, during a spirit week pep rally, or in your school auditorium.

Finally, school spirit awards will motivate students and staff for the upcoming year.
